The Palaeoworld of Guizhou

Since the end of the last century, a seldom seen prehistoric world has been unfolding in southwestern China, and Guizhou Province has become well known for its abundance of well preserved fossils. It is particularly famous for the Triassic marine reptile fossils found within the Guanling, Xingyi, and Panxian biota. Other vertebrate fossils include Jurassic sauropods from Dafang and Pingba, Triassic Chirotherium tracks from Zhenfeng, and mammals from Cenozoic deposits. Moreover, abundant invertebrate fossils—such as those in the pre-Cambrian Weng’an Biota,Miaohe Biota, and early Paleozoic Kaili Biota—have also been found in Guizhou.
